Out and about in Pitlochry and surroundings
There are miles and miles of walks in the area, all well signposted – from river walks to hill and mountain climbing. Cycling is also a popular activity in the area and we have information on recommended routes and trails for you. Within the area of Pitlochry there are two distilleries – the Edradour which is the smallest distillery in Scotland is just one mile from the Cottage and Blair Athol Distillery is just down in the town. Also in the town is the Heathergems factory where you can see beautiful items being crafted from local heather. There is a wide reaching network of country roads which will take you through the beautiful Perthshire countryside to loch-side locations, hill and mountain glens and remote moors. We have some recommended routes for you to follow, which include our favourite places to stop for a bite to eat or a coffee and home baking. To the north lies Blair Atholl with its famous Castle and Highland piper. The castle has 32 rooms bursting with items of historic interest. You can also visit the attics! The gardens here are also worth a visit.
Dunkeld and Birnam to the south is an historic town with ties to the National Trust. Dunkeld boasts a cathedral and has some lovely riverside walks.
